River Trails Park District Awarded OSLAD Grant to Transform Tamarack Trails Park into a Vibrant Community Hub

The River Trails Park District is thrilled to announce its selection as a recipient of a $379,017 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the State of Illinois. This generous funding will support the redevelopment of Tamarack Trails Park, bringing exciting enhancements to one of the district’s neighborhood parks.

The OSLAD Program, a state-funded initiative, provides critical support to local government agencies for acquiring and developing public parks and open spaces. As part of the latest round of grants, Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) awarded a total of $55.2 million to 100 communities across Illinois, ensuring vibrant recreational opportunities statewide.

The $379,017 grant will transform Tamarack Trails Park adding an array of new features, including a new playground, four pickleball courts, a full basketball court, a new shelter, updated benches, a water fountain, and a permanent baggo set. “We are incredibly excited to receive this grant,” said Bret Fahnstrom, Executive Director. “It will enable us to complete the much-anticipated redevelopment of Tamarack Trails Park, a park that serves as a hub for the community, located next to Prairie Trails School and the Mount Prospect Fire Department.”

Construction is slated to begin in 2025, marking a significant step forward in creating a dynamic and welcoming space for residents to enjoy for years to come.
